So here's a before picture, my hair is just blonde here, as you can see.
What you will need: Two packets of unsweetened black cherry kool aid, One packet of regular cherry unsweetened kool aid, a pot (to boil water), two cups of water, a dark colored towel (dark green or dark red if possible), two plastic disposable cups, something to keep you busy. (a cell phone, handheld game, magazine, etc.), two strong rubber bands. I suggest brushing your hair first, unless you already though of that. Smart you ;)
Step 1: Take two cups of warm water and boil them in a pot, for about three minutes.
Step 2: Take the boiling water and pour it about halfway into the cups. There might be some water left over, so just dump that into the sink.
Step 3: Pour one packet of black cherry kool aid into each cup, then split the cherry kool aid semi evenly into each cup. It doesn't have to be perfect ;) Stir the kool aid until you can't feel/see the powder anymore.
Step 4: Lay down your dark colored towel on the table, because this stuff stains instantly. Put the cups parallel to each other on the towel.
Step 5: Sit down in a chair, take half you hair and put it in a rubber band where you want the color to stop. Repeat this step with the other half of your hair. My hair is about two feet long, I dyed about seven inches of my hair red because I'm a dare devil. *wink wink* ;)
Step 6: (This is the fun part!) :) Dip your hair into the cups of dye. You are going to have to keep your hair in them for 30-45 minutes, I left mine in for 55 minutes, and it was the darkest it has ever been, and I have done this three times. So just keep your hair in the dye, and keep yourself busy :)
Step 7: After you have kept your hair in the dye for 30-45 minutes, keep your hair in the cups as you walk to your kitchen or bathroom sink. Like I said, I stains instantly so be careful. With your hair and the cups 'over' the sink, remove your hair from the dye, and dump the kool aid.
Step 8: Rinse your hair in the sink, until most of the water is just a faint pink. Absorb most of the water with the dark colored towel. Careful not to absorb all the dye out, It does happen.
Step 9: Brush your hair, and then blow dry your hair on the cool air setting. Once dry, brush your hair once more.
Step 10: Enjoy your amazing red dip dye hair!! P.s, It will smell like kool aid for quite a while, and will fade in the shower. I dye my hair every week!!
This is my after picture!! I wish the best of luck to you :) Have fun!
I will answer any questions you have, and I will also be doing blue next so come back for more how to's and DIY.
Extra notes: The boiling water makes the dye soak into your hair deeper than regular warm water.
Kool aid is very cheap and you can buy it at pretty much any grocery store.
